Microsoft 365 delivers contemporary file sharing and storage capabilities with SharePoint and OneDrive. These meet university security standards for institutional data and have become increasingly easier to use. UConn has full access to these services through our Microsoft enterprise agreement and securely leveraging them makes both strategic and financial sense. Consistent with this, ITS has been transitioning legacy file sharing and storage services to Microsoft SharePoint/OneDrive over the past year. Dropbox has been retired. File uploads have been disabled for FileLocker, and the service will be discontinued in February. As of last week, faculty, staff, and student files that were on the personal (P) drive have all been migrated to OneDrive.
Our next step is to transition departmental (Q) drives to SharePoint, which will ultimately provide more power over how files are accessed and shared. We understand that this change will be more complex than the others and has the potential to be disruptive. ITS will communicate extensively as the project unfolds. We will provide substantial support and training, and no changes will happen without advance notice. You can help us prepare the community by encouraging your areas to delete unnecessary files from their Q: drive. This will ensure that only the data that is needed will be migrated.
