October is Cybersecurity Awareness month. This is a national campaign designed to highlight the importance of cybersecurity and provide Americans with the information and resources needed to be safer and more secure online. The theme this year, “See Yourself in Cyber,” emphasizes our individual and collective roles in both privacy and the protection of online information. It highlights the four basic concepts everyone should know and adopt: strong passwords; multi-factor authentication; phishing awareness; and software updates. ITS routinely emphasizes all four of these at UConn as we incorporate and announce measures to secure the university network and its data. We also encourage adoption of these strategies in your personal life for the protection of your own data.
We are offering to provide small group sessions that will outline key elements of cybersecurity and cover the steps that everyone should follow at work and at home to better protect university and personal systems and data. If you are interested in scheduling a presentation for your team or another group, send a request to Nancy Wojnarowski (nancy.wojnarowski@uconn.edu).
