ITS is beginning to assess advanced data analytics solutions.
On workstations managed by ITS, we collect data on software usage to inform decision-making around current and future offerings. We found that the software package, other than the browser, used most frequently in the labs is R, a programming language and environment primarily used for statistical computing and graphics. The use in the labs indicates that the R is de-facto integrated into the curriculum, and we are well aware of its frequent use by our research community for processing and analysis of data sets. This strongly suggests that support of R aligns with community interests as well as the institutional mission, and therefore, ITS is committed to pursuing hardware and software support for this well-known and useful package. To enable us to better evaluate options, ITS will reach out to the community next week to provide additional information and request feedback via a short survey at adas.its.uconn.edu.
