DR is a critical IT operational capability designed to quickly restore and deliver key services from a remote location in response to a catastrophic loss of our production facilities in Storrs. ITS built and maintains a DR site in the state operated Groton data center. We will be conducting a DR test there during the week of May 21st. We will simulate an active DR event by transitioning workloads from Storrs to Groton for selected tier 1 environments: Student Administration, Kuali Financials, Aurora (WordPress service), and NetID and account creation services. Services will be disrupted for up to eleven hours when they are transferred from Storrs to Groton beginning at 9:00 am on Sunday, May 21st and again when they transfer back later that week. The exercise is scheduled to conclude by Wednesday evening of that week. In addition to the normal exercise, we are adding a test of the recently upgraded Groton network where we will sever the connection between UConn and Groton temporarily. This would occur in an actual disaster, and it will validate that the associated applications will remain functional as intended.
ITS will maintain up-to-date information on the IT status page (itstatus.uconn.edu) detailing these service migrations.
